Michael Barrett made Sausage at the back of Astons Butchers in Land Lane, Marston Green 40 years ago. When the shop became available he decided to take that on as well. The operation then moved to Station Road, Marston Green which was a larger shop and after a few years David Barrett came to work there. Previously he had six years’ experience in all aspects of the meat industry working for the midlands largest butchers chain Walter Smith.
Realising early on that a small village butchers needs a unique selling point, David decided to start entering Sausage competitions and on the first occasion got 3 gold awards. Over the coming years Barretts Sausages has won over 100 awards both regionally and nationally as well as competing in the champion of champions awards.
Having made Sausage alongside a retail shop for many years we made the decision in 2010 to sell the shop and put all our efforts into solely making Sausage. The idea was that we made the Sausage in the unit on the back of the retail butchers shop with three other staff and it would be enough to earn a living. Our customers had different ideas and after only three years we moved to a new site with a custom made sausage factory and now employ 25 staff.
Our goal is to always put the customer first and provide a service second to none.
